Montgomery Visioning Session
Imagine the future of Montgomery. Join us for a fun and productive morning as we explore the future of Montgomery! The Urban Studies department at the University of Calgary has teamed up with Montgomery Community Association, the Montgomery BRZ and the Federation of Calgary Communities to discuss the evolution of our neighbourhood. Please join us for a Community Visioning Session at the Montgomery Community Centre on Saturday, February 4. Doors open at 8:30 am, and the session runs from 9 am to noon. Coffee and refreshments provided. Information gathered will help senior Urban Studies students to develop visions of Montgomery's future that will be presented to the community in April. February Planning Committee Workshop
EVENT IS FULL Learn what planning committees can do, and how to develop the organizational structure to run an effective planning committee. Also discover some tips for working with other stakeholders in the planning process including The City, developers, local politicians and your own community members. This is also a great opportunity to hear about other community associations’ planning experiences and how they dealt with them! The workshop will be held in the Federation boardroom, 1609 – 14th Street SW, 7-9 pm. Presented by Federation Urban Planner + Engagement Facilitator Natasha Kuzmak.

Northwest Community Visioning Session

The Urban Studies class at the University of Calgary has teamed up with Cambrian Heights, Triwood & Rosemont Community Associations & the Federation of Calgary Communities to discuss the evolution of the area. Please join us for a Community Visioning Session at the Cambrian Heights Community Centre on Saturday, February 11. Doors open at 8:30 am & the session runs from 9 am to noon. Coffee & snacks will be provided. Information gathered will help Urban Studies students to develop visions of the area that they will present to the communities in April. Environmental Roundtable
THE WASTE CHAIN - DISPELLING MYTHS ABOUT RECYCLING AND WASTE Ever wonder about why we recycle or what happens to recyclable materials? Well, have we got a great night for you! The third Environmental Roundtable event will focus on waste management. Join us in hearing speakers from the Recycling Council of Alberta, The City of Calgary, Green Calgary and a local community association. Topics will span from a description of waste management at a provincial level to a community association’s development of a waste management strategy. Additionally, The City rep will describe The City’s waste management strategy and plans for the future, dispel myths about recycling, describe the Food and Yard Waste Pilot program, and explain community scaled opportunities for waste management. Location: Banff Trail Community Association hall, 2115 20th Avenue NW. Sign-in starts at 6:30 pm and the event runs from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Snacks and beverages will be provided!

Orientation to the Planning Process is a small-group workshop that reviews the Community Guide to the Planning Process and gives participants an opportunity to discuss planning related issues with colleagues from other community association and Federation planners. PIP Planning With Heritage In Mind
PIP Planning With Heritage in Mind. The Municipal Development Plan and the Calgary Heritage Strategy present a new vision where the City works with a range of stakeholders including communities to build a culture of preservation. Join heritage staff to learn how the City works with stakeholders to preserve historic resources and implement the strategy. Includes an introduction to the preservation principles of “identification, protection and management”, illustrated with local case studies. This is an elective course in the PIP program. Date: Saturday, March 17, 2012. Time: 9:00am to 12:00pm (sign-in starts at 8:30 am). Location: Bankview Community Association, 2418 - 17 Street SW. Most of the nearby parking is street parking.
