The community of Marlborough is located in the NE of Calgary. Marlborough is a mature community, made up of land annexed by the city in 1961. It is bordered by the Trans Canada highway in the North, 52 St. NE in the East, 32 Street NE in the West and Memorial Drive in the South. Marlborough is only 6 km from downtown, which can be easily accessed via Memorial Drive or the LRT. Marlborough contains a variety of shopping centres and restaurants. Both public and separate schools are found within the community, including a French immersion school.
One of the community showpieces is its large community centre. This centre was recently expanded to add a community lounge, which contains a fireplace, pool table, dart board, big screen TV and shuffleboard. The lounge offers a place for families to relax during the weekdays. On Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights the lounge becomes a pub where adults can meet and discuss community concerns. Aside from the lounge, the community centre offers a variety of programs to appeal to the community’s diverse population. A preschool program, sports activities and jelly bean dances are just a few of the programs Marlborough has to offer. Marlborough’s community center also houses the local Blockwatch group, which works to ensure community safety standards are maintained. Through these programs, Marlborough is working to achieve its goal of becoming an ever closer-knit neighbourhood.
