Community Description

go to top ^

Calgary's East Village is located along the Bow riverbank, east of the downtown commercial core. The Bow and Elbow Rivers, the adjacent riverbanks, St. Patrick's Island and Fort Calgary are physical attractions of East Village. The aesthetic appeal of such major open spaces is increased by a location beside the dramatic downtown skyline. The Fort Calgary Interpretive Centre and the Golden Age Club are established facilities. A number of studies, including the Area Redevelopment Plan, envision the area as having the potential to become a unique downtown district, blending various types of housing with commercial and community facilities to serve local residents, downtown workers and Calgarians in general. The City is currently working on a joint venture partnership that would oversee implementation of development in the area.
